As you all know, bookstores are common in many towns, even halfway across the world! Let’s take a look at some of the most famous bookstores, and where they live.

-Shakespeare and Company: Located in the middle of Paris, near Notre-Dome and on the banks of the Seine, this famous bookstore has been a hit from the time it opened in 1951 all the way to today. That means the shop, founded by George Whitman, has been around for over 70 years! And many visitors to this bookstore have actually become something called a Tumbleweed! You get to sleep in the shop, help out around the building, read a book a day, and you also have to write a one page autobiography about yourself for the store! If this sounds cool, put Shakespeare and Company on your bucket list!

-Foyles: Found on Charing Cross Road, in the heart of the West End in London, this bookshop will attract locals and tourists alike! With a large children’s section, London-themed souvenirs, and a delicious cafe to add to the charm, Foyles once made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the worlds biggest bookstore! That’s a HUGE accomplishment! William and Gilbert Foyles, the founders of this shop in 1929, hope you’ll eventually stop by someday to see the magnificent store!

-Strand Bookstore: It’s Broadway’s biggest bookstore hit! Strand! Located on Broadway in Manhattan, this shop is one of the most famous bookstores in the world! It’s also the oldest one that we’ve talked about today, with Benjamin Bass founding it in 1927 when he was only 25, making it nearly 100 years in age! And what about this shop’s name? Strand is a street in London, a street where several writers and and book publishers lived or gathered. Sadly, Strand is at the risk of closure, so if you want to save this famous bookstore, stop by sometime soon!

Bookstores exist all over the world, and many are very popular. So make plans to go shopping in them, or put them on your bucket list for sometime in the future!
