So, I have done a review on the first book in the Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland. Now I’m skipping ahead to the sixth. This might seem weird, but the story introduces a whole new set of characters, conflicts, even a whole new prophecy! Moon Rising is personally my favorite, I think because I find myself a lot like the main character, a Nightwing named Moonwatcher. Well, I can’t read minds or see the future, but other things. She’s also things that I aspire to be. Something else about this book in general is how, because our main character has the ability to read minds, you get a peak into lots of other dragons besides her. It’s a way to turn point of view into a unique version of third person omniscience that really draws me into the story. Another thing that I like a lot about this book is that in my opinion, the new prophecy is a little better than the one about the dragonets. I’ll write it down below so you can read it yourself:

Jade Mountain Prophecy

Beware the darkness of dragons
Beware the stalker of dreams
Beware the talons of power and fire
Beware the one who is not what she seems

Something is coming to shake the Earth
Something is coming to scorch the ground
Jade Mountain will fall beneath thunder and ice
Unless the lost city of night can be found

Moon Rising is the introduction to the journey of six dragons: Moon, Winter, Qibli, Kinkajou, Turtle, and Peril. They all attend Jade Mountain Academy, a school run by the prophecy dragonets. When strange things start happening at the school, such as an exploding history cave, it’s up to Moon to discover who did it. But Moon has her own secrets hidden away. The Nightwing powers of mind reading and prophecy have been long lost ever since they moved to their ash covered hideaway and were deprived of moonlight. Because Moon’s mother made the risky choice to keep her dragonet hidden in the rain forest, Moon was hatched under two full moons, granting her two special powers. Instructed to her abilities hidden, the young Nightwing is nervous about going to school. Will someone find out about her mind reading? Instead, to her surprise, she is on her way to making friends… at least until she has a vision that she can’t ignore. Now those very friends are suspicious, and she tells them everything. Except for one small detail. Ever since arriving at the school, Moon has been hearing a voice in her head, someone that she starts to see as another friend. But who is he really? The dragonet has to use her powers to expose a vicious killer, but when the answer becomes clear, it’s not what she was thinking. Meanwhile, another murderer is planning something, and Moon has to stop them before they complete their mission. Will Moon and her friends come out on top? Or will everything go up in flames?

Are you perched on the edge of your seat now? Intrigued and wanting to find out what happens next? If you answered yes, then I suggest you read this book! Of course, if the other five books have slipped past you, I recommend reading them first. And as a bonus, there’s a graphic novel on this one that was recently released! If you’re interested in that, go check out the article I did going over it. Good bye!
