Hi everybody! I recently read a really good book called The Bully Book by Eric Kahn Gale. I admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard the title, I ended up liking it. In fact, I loved it. When you say up till late to finish it, that means that, right? It’s a heart warming story with some nice funny bits to it about a boy who goes on a quest to find answers and stop his bullies.
Eric Haskins is in sixth grade, and up until now he’s had a good life. But kids, including his best friend, Donovan, are starting to bully him. He was never the popular kid, but he’s also never been the victim, or the grunt, as everybody seems to call it. All of that has been flipped upside down. Even his other friend, and secret crush, Melody, hasn’t been that nice. Eric realizes this is all happening because of something called The Book. So he begins to search for the other victims, or grunts, before him. He picks up small clues along the way, but he really uncovers some major secrets when he teams up with someone he was original suspicious of, and they work together to find out more about the mysterious Book. But just as Eric discovers the answer to the mystery, his partner moves away, which was his goal for many years. Now Eric is one his own, and he’s so close to the answers that he can almost taste sweet victory. But it will take more than he thought, determination and courage, to take down his bullies and the ones before them for good.
The Bully Book is a combination of the life of Eric Haskins and The Book, written by a secret someone. That’s one of the things I like. The two different scenes really make the book a more exciting read. I also think that the extra comedy completes the book and makes it irresistible to put down. If I could, I would read The Bully Book by Eric Kahn Gale over and over again every time.
