I recently got this book for Christmas, and as soon as I read the first page, I knew this would be a book I would not be able to put down. I was right. Hitting the Books by Jenn McKinlay is the perfect read for anyone like me, who loves books and the occasional mystery. The author kept the story engaging and interesting the whole way through, a skill that is tough to achieve and one that I admire greatly.

Hitting the Books is about a young women named Lindsey Norris, a librarian part of a crafternoon group. Yet at one on their meetings, something happens to go awry. Looking out the window, Lindsey watched a friend of hers, Theresa Huston, step into the street during her afternoon jog, when a white car sped around the corner and headed straight for her. Luckily she was okay, but the hit-and-run had everyone rattled. What didn’t help was when a break in occurred at Theresa’s house, resulting in an attempted murder. Now her husband-to-be, Larry Milstein is getting involved, and takes the woman to stay at his house with him and his daughter, Liza. And Lindsey has been nothing but a friend and a bystander, until a stack of CDs shows up in the white car involved in the hit-and-run. The chief of police needs the librarian’s help to track down who borrowed the material, but when the answer is finally uncovered, no one wants to face the truth. As time begins to wind down with the pressure building, will Lindsey be able to solve this mystery? Or is it perhaps that the solution is just a bit more complicated than anyone had suspected?

Like I said above, what I really loved about this was the way I had my thoughts on the mystery, but I don’t think anyone could have imagined just how amazing and complex the ending really was. And the writer, Jenn McKinlay, is so talented, the wording of the story had me laughing the whole way through, and I didn’t want the book to end! I will definitely be on the lookout for more of her books in the future.
