Hello everyone! A new book recently came out (the third in an amazing series), so I thought I’d tell you about it. But first, I figure a little background story is in order here. The graphic novel series by Jerry Craft starts out with a book called New Kid, which is about an artsy teenager named Jordan who is starting a new school called Rad, short for Riverdale Academy Day School. He doesn’t feel like he belongs, at least until he finds his friends Liam and Drew. Then, in the second book, titled Class Act, the plot follows the life of Drew, as he struggles with school and complicated friendships. Now, the trio and their other friends are setting their sights to a grander setting. Paris!

School Trip is the third graphic novel in Jerry Craft’s series. The kids are excited to go on a trip to Paris, France for school, but things are already becoming chaotic when someone switched the teachers chaperoning each trip. Suddenly the art teacher and French teacher are going on totally different trips instead of Paris, and Mr. Roche and Mr. Garner are taking their places! These two teachers may be fun to be around, but sadly know nothing about France. Their credit cards don’t even seem to work because of the unplanned switch up. Luckily, one kid named Maury is able to come to the rescue, much to the surprise and delight to the teachers, even if they do feel guilty. Not to mention, Mr. Roche and Mr. Garner are lost when it comes to directions and where the group is supposed to be headed. And yet again, Maury steps up, and basically becomes the group leader. But these aren’t the only problems here is the City of Lights. Friendships are getting to be an issue too, especially every time Andy opens his mouth, and rude comments come out. Ramon, who Andy has been teasing since they were little kids, has finally had enough, and one night totally blows up, which really puts things in perspective for Andy. Yet even after Jordan talks to him in their room, he still doesn’t seem to get it. But throughout it all, Jordan will have his friends and his sketchbook as he attempts to navigate his life. Will he reach his desired destination, or crash his car along the way?

Personally, I really enjoyed this book, and not only because of the gorgeous art, but because Jordan his just so real. His thoughts, feelings, and actions can be so relatable. But if this book seems like a good fit for you, I would definitely recommend reading the first two first, so that you can get a better idea of Liam’s, Drew’s, and Jordan’s lives and personalities. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next time!
