One word: WOW. Maybe a Mermaid written by Josephine Cameron is one of the most amazing and delightful books  I’ve ever read.

This book is about a girl named Anthoni Gillis. Her mom is a worker at Beauty & The Bee, a cosmetic store that is all about bees. Anthoni and her mom have been dreaming about going to The Showboat Resort, a place that Anthoni’s mom went to for the summers when she was a child. When Anthoni thinks of  The Showboat Resort, she pictures the same thing as what’s on the resort’s postcard. To get to The Showboat Resort, Anthoni’s mom is going to have to get promoted from a Worker Bee, to the Queen Bee. And now, they are finally hitting the road, after years of planning and hard work, Anthoni and her mom are off to The Showboat Resort. But when they get there, they discover that it doesn’t look at all like the paradise they had been expecting. The Showboat itself is old and run down, and Thunder lake looks nothing like the crystal clear water on the postcard. When they go into The Showboat, things only get worse. The person running the front desk is a crazy old lady named Charlotte Boulay who enjoyed pretending to be a heron trying to swallow a fish to big for its throat!! Gross!! Anthoni’s one goal for this trip is to get a True Blue Friend. But she soon finds herself chasing a girl named Maddy Quinn when she had already found two awesome friends.

I really enjoy books that have a prologue, and epilogue, or(better yet!)both! Maybe a Mermaid has both. This book is one of those books that can make you yell at the main character: “Why!! Don’t do that!!” So if you don’t like books that make you do that, you might what to stay away from Maybe a Mermaid. Personally, I am not a fan of books that make me get angry with the characters, but this book was so good I decided to make a exception. Hooray for Maybe a Mermaid and Josephine Cameron!!!!
